Level 2/Pre-K4
Ages 4-5
-
Our Level II program provides students with a caring, creative, and structured learning environment that fosters development of the whole child and prepares them for the rigors of Kindergarten. Students will use the established program “Handwriting Without Tears” which teaches children printing and letter recognition in a gentle, age-appropriate manner. Our phonics and whole language activities help children begin reading and writing simple sentences. Mathematical concepts are explored through work with standard and non-standard measurements, number lines, simple graphs and charts. Students practice with counting, sequencing, patterning, and puzzles. This class incorporates a multi-sensory approach to learning where art, music and dance also come into play. Level II also features hand-on science experiments and exploration into the world of animals and plants. Like every class at Holy Cross, Level II: Pre-K is a family that encourages every person to discover and grow. Between our everyday curriculum, themed days and fun events, such as our Christmas play, International Night and graduation performance, children look forward to coming to school daily.
Our musical handbell program is geared for Level II children and is led by our School Director, Carrie Bryant-Render. Level II Children will learn music through both song and handbells and will then perform during our Christmas and End of Year Graduation Programs. Our handbell program helps the children not only gain musical skills like tone, melody, harmony and rhythm, but also promotes skills such as following directions, listening, working as a team and hand-eye coordination.
